A Makeshift City Centre Campsite Will Be Set Up Today For Week-Long Extinction Rebellion Protest

James Fenton

A week of global Extinction Rebellion protests will begin today and Dublin is one of 60 cities where demonstrations will take place.

A makeshift campsite is reportedly being setting up at an undisclosed city centre location with ‘specific themes and activities taking place every day’. It’s all set to get underway at noon when demonstrators are scheduled to gather at the Dáil.

A number of bodies will be monitoring the situation in order to minimise disruption, including Gardaí, Dublin City Council and public transport operators.

A spokeperson for Extinciton Rebellion XR told RTÉ that ‘protests will cause some disruption but they will be focused on government and industry, rather than causing problems for the general public.’

Events are also set to take place in London, Paris, Buenos Aires and Cape Town among other locations throughout the week.
