Book A Christmas Party With A Difference At This Georgian Mansion

Sarah Finnan

And better yet, it’s sustainably conscious.

When it comes to planning the annual Christmas party, sometimes it can be hard to think of new ideas and come up with something to top the previous year.

Why not go for something completely different this year and try the Christmas dining experience at Orlagh Country House?

Set out in Rathfarnham, there are events on December 5, 6 and 7 and with the theme of Phantasmagoria, meaning a sequence of real or imaginary images like that seen in a dream, it’s bound to go down in the books as a party to remember.

Phantasmagoria, the brainchild of H&G Creations Ltd., came about to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Now in its seventh year, their Christmas dining experience combines sustainably sourced food with original theatre, art, music and some of the country’s top performers. It’s also BYOB for major brownie points.

The banquet includes a three-course vegetarian meal, immersive décor and interactive performance that brings the magic of Phantasmagoria to life. Aiming to give guests a party to remember, there’s also a focus on being as sustainable as possible by reducing food waste to a minimum.

Christmas has a reputation for being quite a wasteful time of year, between packaging, wrapping paper and an abundance of food so organisers “wanted to create an event that flips that idea on its head”. All food is locally sourced and decorations are created by the event stylists using recycled goods.

While the event was previously run at No. 12 Henrietta St. in Dublin 1, it has now moved to the gorgeous Georgian Mansion at Orlagh Country House. Built in 1790, it gives the illusion of time standing still and allows attendees to experience the glamour of the past.
