Here’s A Full Run-Down Of What Exactly Is Going On At The Parade Tomorrow

Paddy's Day can be a nightmare without absolute and total coordination. The city is chaos (in the best way possible) and not easy to manoeuvre around in. 

Buuut, it doesn't have to be this way. Not when you have all the facts. And that's exactly what we're here for. 

So let's kick things off, shall we...

Where and when does the parade start?

Everything kicks off at 12:01pm (noon) at Parnell Square, Dublin 1.

What's this year's theme?

This year's festival theme is 'Ireland You Are…', which will weave its way through the heart of the capital city in a flourish of colour and flair. The theme is massively up to interpretation, meaning that you should expect many intricate floats and displays travelling through Dublin city centre. 

Are just Irish participants involved in the parade?

No way, José. Bands from Ireland will be joined by music ensembles from around the world, including France, Germany, the Bahamas, Switzerland and the USA, will deliver uplifting rhythms for the spectacular procession.

And, what about the parade route itself?

So, this is the parade route in all its emerald glory.

The route has been changed slightly this year, with the parade now coming down the EAST side of O'Connell Street (the Clery's side) and then heading onto Westmoreland Street.

People coming along to view on O'Connell Street are encouraged to enter through the various access routes along Marlborough Street.

Pedestrians will be re-directed to the Rosie Hackett Bridge, going North and South of the city, as opposed to using Westmoreland Street on parade day. 

The parade route has also been extended and there will not be viewing availability on Kevin Street.

And don't worry about remembering all of this, there will be plenty of signs and Gardaí scattered throughout the city during the day to help you on your merry way. 

Is it possible to get around the city when the parade is on?

Of course, but you'll have to plan ahead.

What's the story with booze at the parade?

Booze at the parade is a big no-no. However, a plethora of pubs around the city will be ready and open for business. 

Off licences will also be closed until 4pm, so bear that in mind if you plan on pre-drinking.
