Every week, we’ll look at a village along the Dart line and see what there is to do there for the day.
Dalkey is where the other half lives. The place of €10m mansions, the area has a vibrant food scene so it’s definitely worth checking out. The village is also very picturesque.
Start the day off in the Magpie Inn. While they are known for their great selection of craft beers, they also do a loverly brunch.
Unfortunately, The Tramyard is closed down at the moment while they’re doing building works, otherwise they would also be a good option.
After brunch, you can take a walk down by Coliemore Road and Vico Road, which will give you great views of the coast and a chance to sneak a look at some of the beautiful looking houses in the area. You might get a glimpse of seals out in the water too.
The whole thing should take about an hour.
There are lots of cute shops to check out, like Toil and Glitter, Unique Flowers and Interior.
Dalkey, true to its character, has at least three gourmet food stores. We’ve named Select Stores as one of our favourites in the past but there’s also the Country Bake bakery and delicatessen.
My fave is Thyme Out, mostly because they have these brownies that are to die for. They also do lots of healthy food so you can get a soup, salad or sandwich to go, or just buy some supplies and keep living that Dalkey lifestyle after you get home.
For dinner, there are tons of options.
De Ville's is often called the best restaurant in Dalkey and I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about it. They do standard bistro food like burgers, bangers and mash, and fish and chips.
1909 looks fabulous and does amazing food, we're reliable informed that the steak comes highly recommended. There's also have gluten free options for coeliacs.
If you feel like Italian, Benitos is an institution in Dalkey. It also has a great early bird menu that runs all day from Monday to Thursday and until 6.30pm the rest of the week, giving two courses for €18.90.
I’d definitely recommend the pizzas, which are delish.
Regazzi also does great Italian food, while Ouzos (which also has a branch in Blackrock, but Dalkey is the original) does brilliant seafood.
After dinner, you should head out for a drink in one of Dalkey's many fine establishments.
Finnegan's is the classic old man pub in Dalkey, often frequented by Bono (although that may be a minus, depending on your preferences!).
Queens is great on a cold day because they usually have a roaring fire. It’s where the younger people go to drink.
Or you could get a glass of vino in On The Grapevine wine bar.
There are so many options to choose from.
