There’s a lot to consider when getting a tattoo – design, placement, colouring, style etc.
Unquestionably though, the most important thing is choosing the right place to get the thing done. At the end of the day, you’re entrusting someone to permanently ink your skin!
Luckily, Dublin has its fair share of very good establishments, housing some even better artists! Here’s our pick of places to consider:
1. The Ink Factory – Wellington Quay, Dublin 2
A relatively new spot, The Ink Factory is also home to a barbers and a coffee shop – some serious multi-tasking going on there. Artist Jack Mangan has a stellar reputation and recently picked up an award at the Galway Tattoo Convention for his work.
2. Snakebite, Abbey St., Dublin 1
Blink and you’d miss it – it’s next door to PAB Travel on Abbey Street on the third floor. Luckily, they have a very well-kept Instagram which acts as their advertising. Snakebite is home to tattoo artists Luke, Sean and Denise and piercer Stephen. Expect super friendly, enthusiastic service that’s fairly priced.
3. Wildcat Ink – Jervis and St. Stephen’s Green
What a pair. Both premises are unmissable due to their unique signage. They’ve garnered quite their reputation for their seriously impressive script tattoos, but they dabble in everything from portraits to more traditional styles.
(We recommend Caroline in Wildcat North – she is AMAZING).
4. Spilled Ink, Great Denmark St., Dublin 1
Mark, Anthony, Mario, Niamh and Shauna look after everyone in Spilled Ink, no matter what the request is. They really know how to execute a gorgeous colour piece. Anthony is also partial to a few NSFW tatts that we couldn’t POSSIBLY link here, but you should definitely check out on his own Instagram.
5. Dublin Ink – Cow’s Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 2
Last, but not least, this is probably the most famous tattoo and piercing shop in our fair city. We’re strongly considering getting the Eleven from Stranger Things tattoo that Isnard recently drew up – OBSESSED.
