It’s been a bad week for food and drink fans in the city, with news last night that the popular Sabor Brazil has closed down.
Now, to add insult to injury, it looks like the beloved Jack Nealon’s Bar on Capel Street is also set to be a thing of the past.
The sad news emerged last night, with customer Colm O’Dwyer taking to Twitter to share his disappointment at the development.
Terrible news. Lovely Nealon’s Bar on Capel St is to close down in April. Vulture fund. All staff laid off. WTF is happening in this city?

We contacted Nealon’s Pub today to confirm the news and unfortunately, it’s true.
According to Andrew Vuisidalko, who runs the city centre bar, the premises has come under new ownership and will close from mid-April.
All the current staff are set to lose their jobs, with Vuisidalko describing the closure as the “demise of an era”.
“It’s very upsetting, both for the staff and the customers, especially as it’s been such a success story as a business. It’s always been a unique, unpretentious place where people from different backgrounds come together and share ideas. There’s such a legacy and a history here so it really does feel like the end of an era.”
We’ve always loved popping into Nealon’s for a pint and a toastie; it’ll be missed.
