This Dublin Restaurant Charges Extra Just For Putting Your Food Into A Doggy Bag

UPDATE: This charge has since been dropped following negative customer feedback.

Oh Dublin.

Every time we think you’re approaching perfection, you do something to absolutely shatter our faith. And this one is a right classic.

Vermilion is an undoubtedly Indian excellent restaurant in Terenure, and one that we couldn’t recommend more highly for the most part. But this week, Lyn Jennings got in touch to tell us that she’d had a rather unusual charge added to her bill…

Vermillion

A €1 charge, for doggy bags, to take home the food you’ve already purchased.

According to Lyn, she queried the charge and was given a reason relating to the printing of the bags – something we would have thought of as a standard operational charge when it comes to running a restaurant, particularly one that offers a takeaway service.

This extra euro will hardly break the bank by any means, but it certainly seems wrong in principle – and hints a return to the days of sneaky charges we thought had been consigned to the past.

Have you been charged for having your food put into a doggy bag?
