A spa hen party is always a winner – especially if the thought of the likes of off-road driving or archery makes you want to lock yourself in a press until it’s all over.
And to be fair, what’s not to bloody love? Hens get to chill like the proverbial villains – a massage here, a soak in the Jacuzzi there, even a seaweed bath is within the realm of possibility for Jaysis’ sake.
So, to make planning your chillax-to-the-max spa hen easy and breezy, here are our fave spa hotels around the country:
1. Lyrath Estate Hotel & Spa
Barely a 10-minute drive from Kilkenny city, that oasis of hen-dom, is Lyrath Estate – and as a recent visitor to the hotel, you have it on good authority that it’s blimmin’ gorgeous.
The on-site Oasis spa offers heaps of treatments, while the thermal suite is brilliant for hens to chill out and have the craic together. And the pièce de résistance? The hot-as-a-bath infinity pool that looks out onto the Estate’s lush grounds.
2. Radisson BLU Farnham Estate Cavan
Farnham Estate’s spa has a touch of the Club Med about it, except, of course, you’re indoors.
The impressive spa is huge, and if you’re strapped for cash and want to forgo treatments, admission to the Water Mint Thermal Suite with robes, indoor pool, outdoor infinity pool, swanky lounge areas, refreshment room and steam and sauna is only €25pp. Grand.
3. Faithlegg House Hotel
Aside from gorgeous grounds and a beautiful Downton-esque interior, Faithlegg House Hotel near Waterford city is the proud owner of a pretty great little spa.
Located on the bottom floor of the hotel, The Estuary Spa is has a cool, almost subterranean feel to it, and if you and your hens are after the whole shebang it has four individual treatment rooms, a relaxation room, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a 17m heated indoor pool.
4. No.1 Pery Square
Sitting pretty in Limerick City’s Georgian Quarter is No.1 Pery Square Hotel & Spa. With its restored vaults, exposed brick and original stonework, the spa is proper swank, and as an exclusive VOYA spa offers hens loads of seaweed-based treatments, as well as a ‘thermal experience’ with a herbal cocoon, coal bunker sauna, aroma steam room, Irish mist showers and a zen garden.
We know, ‘tis far, far away from ‘coal bunker saunas’ and ‘herbal cocoons’ we were reared, but sure feck it, it’s your hen!
5. Lough Eske Castle Hotel & Spa
Are the bride-to-be’s nerves shot to hell? Well the Spa Solis in Donegal’s stunning Lough Eske Castle is just what the doctor ordered, we swear.
Situated in the Castle’s gardens the key word here is ‘tranquil’, from the views of the lake and the surrounding Blue Stack mountains, to the thermal suite and infinity pool, to the posh Anne Semonin treatments which promise to make ye all feel like a million-and-seven euro.
