A €7 Million Cycle Route Has Been Approved For A Busy Dublin City Area

Cyclists will be happy to hear this news, because one of Dublin's busiest areas is due to get a new cycle route.

The Irish Times reported that Dublin City Council has approved plans for a cycle route from Clontarf to Amiens Street, which will restrict cars to one lane on part of the busy traffic route.

The 2.5 kilometres route was approved on Monday night which is expected to cost €7.35 million.

There were worries when it was originally proposed that the new cycle route would result in the cutting down of 42 of Dublin's oldest trees, but amendments have been put in place to prevent this.

Now, it has been reported that part of the route will see traffic cut down to one lane between Malahide Road and Merville Avenue that runs in front of Fairview Park.

Which may result in a bit of excess traffic compared to usual.

The construction will not only result in a 2.5km cycle route, but there will be improved footpaths and landscaping from Clontarf Road via Marino Mart, Fairview, Annesley Bridge Road, North Strand Road and Amiens Street.

Construction is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2018.
