A Dublin woman appeared on radio this morning to discuss how she might face homelessness after a rent increase of 55%.
Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast with Kieran Cuddihy, the tenant known as Sinéad (an alias) said that she received a letter from her landlord at the start of the month stating that her rent would be increased from €900 to €1400. She was given 28 days to pay or leave.
The mother of two, one of whom has autism, has been living in a bungalow in Dublin 15 for the past two years and she is unable to afford this €500 hike in her rent.

After conducting a search for accommodation in the area, Sinéad has yet to find anywhere that's suitable and affordable, and she's feeling the pressure.
No matter how many times I shout, there's nothing that's going to be done, and I'm just going to be swallowed up, and the only people that are really going to be suffering are my children. And I'm just really feeling for them, because I feel my heart is breaking.
Housing reform proposals are going before the Cabinet today that will seek to curb abuses by landlords in Ireland.
