If your heart doesn’t melt at this story then it’s official, there’s no hope for ye.
A scene that wouldn’t go amiss in Love Actually happened in an Irish courtroom yesterday, and luckily for us mere plebs court reporter and journalist Sarah-Jane Murphy was there to witness it.
Jury selection was in full swing at the Criminal Courts of Justice nearby Phoenix Park when one man was called forward, only to say that he couldn’t be selected as he would be away for the weekend.
No bother, says the judge, we don’t sit until Monday.
But the man would also be away on Monday, and for a LOVELY reason…
He had fallen in love for the first time
Jury selection, CCJ, yesterday.
Man: I can’t serve; I’m away for weekend.
Judge: We don’t sit at weekends.
Man: I’m away till Monday. I’m 54, a bachelor & it’s my 1st time in love.
Judge: Then you GO and you GO with my blessing. It was truly an epic moment ??

In our heads we’re picturing a dramatic scene where the judge shouts “GO MY CHILD, RETURN TO YOUR ONE TRUE LOVE”, and this 54-year-old man legs it out of the courtroom to applause and then goes and knocks on a hundred doors singing carols looking for his bae and then… Oh, wait. Oops. That’s Love Actually.
Wouldn’t look out of place in a rom-com. What a lovely moment.
