A teenager has died after collapsing during a football game in North Dublin last night.

The boy, who is thought to be 16 years old, was playing an U-16 match at the Athletic Union League (AUL) complex on Clonshaugh Road when he suddenly fell to the ground.

The game was abandoned as emergency services were called to the scene.

Paramedics from Dublin Fire Brigade worked on the teen for some time before he was brought to Beaumont Hospital.

This morning Shelbourne Football Club broke the news that he had died.

“We are heartbroken to have to confirm the news that our Academy U16 player, Izzy Dezu, collapsed and died during a match at the AUL Complex last night,” they wrote on their Facebook page.

“The thoughts of everyone at Shelbourne FC are with his family, friends, teammates and coaches who have been devastated by his tragic loss.

“May he rest in peace.”
