A Frankly Staggering Amount Of People Are Predicted To See The Pope In The Phoenix Park

James Fenton

If you think Ed Sheeran is going to attract a large crowd to the Phoenix Park next week just wait until Pope Francis gets here in August.

The Herald reports that over 600,000 people are expected to turn up on August 26, the figure being the result of a prediction by the Office of Public Works (OPW). Even though that would be a massive crowd, it’s still nothing on the 1.25 million people who gathered at a Mass given by Pope John Paul II in 1979.

A nationwide traffic management plan is set to be put in place to facilitate the number of people descending on the capital.
