Another Irish Bus Strike Could Be On The Way

The general secretary of National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) has suggested that industrial action is possible in response to the suggestion of major Bus Éireann job losses.

Bus Éireann’s chief recently made comments that 2,600 drivers may lose their jobs in an effort to combat the company’s critical financial situation, which NBRU general secretary Dermot O’Leahy took as a “threat” to his union’s members.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, O’Leahy said,

We see it as a threat rather than a warning. And threats to workers are usually met with action. Obviously that will come in the form of industrial action.

The NBRU, SIPTU and Unite represent the workers who would be affected by this move and they’re set to meet this Thursday to discuss their course of action.
