This Beautiful New Air Traffic Control Tower Will Dominate Dublin’s Skyline – Here’s What It’ll Look Like

When great architecture blends beauty and function to create something really special, the results are generally jaw-dropping.

And the new control tower planned for Dublin airport is one such example.

At 87m, the new unit will stand at 1.5 times the height of Liberty Hall, absolutely dwarfing the existing tower – this is because of the increased visibility needed for the new runway, which will be built a few kilometres to the north.

And given its position in a flat, open space in the north of the county, the tower will also be visible from pretty much all over Dublin.

These pics are from architects Scott Tallon Walker, who drew up the designs when the airport expansion and construction of the new runway were initially due to kick off in 2008.

That was put in hold as the recession hit passenger numbers, but it was announced this week that the process would be kicked off again following a return to good fortunes.

Let's hope that the plans haven't changed too much in that time – because we rather like these ones!
