We don’t like to see anywhere in Dublin closing but especially somewhere that holds a special place in the hearts of those all around the country.
If you were heading to Croker to see your beloved county or club play, there was one place that you needed to stop in to, to whet the throat and settle the nerves.
It was confirmed two weeks ago that The Big Tree Tavern on Dorset Street would close later this year and The Irish Times is reporting that Sunday is the last day we’ll see the pub in its entirety.
It will open for the final time on Sunday before the its conversion into a 163-bedroom hotel begins.
A pub will remain in operation in the new development but it will be reduced in size from the current big tree.
There are no results for As a man who drowned my sorrows on several occasions in that pub, I think I speak on behalf of the whole country when I say how much it’s going to be missed.
For any Dublin, Tyrone, Kerry or Galway fans heading to the finals on Sunday, have a good one in here, for one last time.
