Check Out The Latest Repeal The 8th Mural

Artist Shirani Bolle has painted the latest Repeal the 8th mural in The Bernard Shaw.

Previously Maser’s mural in Temple Bar was removed, but thanks to The Bernard Shaw this one will definitely be harder to disappear.

It reads “Stop letting old men decide what women should do with their bodies”. 

The woman is wearing a hijab, rosary beads, is carrying a discoloured baby, a shopping bag and a workout weight. One nipple is covered with black censored tape (#FreeTheNipple) and other is being used to breastfeed the baby. She also appears to be getting botox, has massive lips and painted nails.

And written across her clearly pregnant tummy is the word “SLUT”. 

It’s disturbingly poignant.

And sums up the extreme pressures put on girls and women, the unrealistic expectations of us and the all-round fucked up-ness of being a female in today’s world.
