Minister for Health, Mr Simon Harris has confirmed that both ‘life-changing’ cystic fibrosis drugs Orkambi and Kalydeco will be available to patients from next month.

Harris responded to ongoing questions in the Dáil with the words:

“These drugs will be available to Irish patients in this country from next month”

According to The Journal, the HSE has been involved with negotiations with pharmaceuticals company Vertex – which manufactures the drugs – over securely providing the drugs to Irish patients living with Cystic Fibrosis.

The Health Minister said that the matter would be brought “to finality” very soon and that both drugs Orkambi and Kalydeco will be available for Irish patients from next month.
