Gardaí are investigating an incident in which Italian students were threatened by a teenager with a gun on the DART, the Irish Independent reports.
According to witnesses, the youth began arguing with the students on the DART from Howth to the city centre. After he got off in Raheny, he then kicked at the train window where an Italian boy was sitting before opening his jacket to reveal the handle of a gun.
The culprit is described as being 15 or 16 years old is said to have been wearing a bulletproof vest.
The incident occurred at around 5.40pm on Bank Holiday Monday May 7. An Italian girl who was present described the experience:
“A day at the beach turned into the most terrifying experience of my life.
“The Dublin youths got off the train at Raheny and then the most aggressive lad ran at the window, near where the Italian boy was sitting, and kicked the window. He opened his hoodie jacket and I could see he was wearing a bulletproof vest.
“He pulled the handle of a gun out of his pocket. The Italian youth was terrified. He started shouting ‘Pistola’. Thank God the train set off.”
Garda investigations are ongoing.
