Dublin Could Be Set To Lose More Car Lanes In Favour Of Bus Routes

The National Transport Authority has said that it will evaluate if we have to lose lanes for car traffic to make way for bus routes.

New research has shown that bus routes are taking longer for passengers in the suburbs getting to and from the city centre than in 2015.

This has been attributed to many double-decker buses having to share parts of the road with cars for a large part of many Dublin bus routes.

According to The Irish Examiner, CEO Anne Graham said that we may have to give up lanes of car traffic to give way to buses and cyclists.

She said, "It could be that a lane of car traffic may have to be given up for a bus or cycling. Looking at car lanes, looking at where there might be a loss of parking, some road widening, signal junctions, other things might be changing. All of that will be revealed in early 2018."

€750m has been ring-fenced by the government for transport next year and the National Transport Authority says it plans to use some of that to tackle the problem.

We'll have to wait until next year to find out what is being set in place.
