Dublin Fire Brigade Issue A Warning About Dangerous Conditions This Weekend

Sarah

We’ve had it pretty good the past week or so with sunshine, but Met Eireann have issued a national rainfall weather warning for the weekend, with “thundery downpours” expected to create 20-30mm of water.

Great.

Drivers are warned to be extra careful on the roads this weekend, with CEO of Road Safety Authority saying that:

“Roads are at their most slippery when the weather breaks after a dry spell. When the weather breaks, this deposit mixes with rainwater and the road becomes hazardous.

The resulting greasy road surface increases stopping distances and the risk of a skid. The sudden change in driving conditions can also catch drivers off guard.”

“The expected rainfall and the condition of roads will make driving particularly hazardous as road surfaces become slippery reducing skid resistance.”

Dublin Fire Brigade posted a graphic photo of a crash they dealt with last night in an attempt to make drivers aware of the dangers they are potentially facing over the next few days.

Best drive slow and steady out there.
