Dublin City Council has announced that a new town, made up of 3,000 homes and commercial space for 8,000 workers, will be built in Poolbeg West, just south of the Docklands, beside Ringsend.

According to the the Herald, the scheme will see the 34 hectares of land, which was designated for fast-track planning permission in May ’16, used for the construction of nine storey apartment blocks and up to 100,000m² of commercial and retail space.

The scheme is one of many direct responses to the current shortage of housing supply in Dublin.

Dublin City Council’s website says:

“The site has potential to provide significant numbers of new housing in an area well served by infrastructure…and for this reason can play an important part in improving housing supply.”
