An important message of inclusivity delivered by international referee Nigel Owens at yesterday's launch event for the 2019 Union Cup, which will be held in Dublin.
The biennial tournament aims to 'make sport accessible for LGBT individuals to promote health and wellbeing through physical activity.'
Founded in 2005 with seven teams taking part, the competition has since grown to an anticipated 45 teams in 2019. The event will be hosted by Dublin club Emerald Warriors and will be held at DCU on the weekend of June 8 and 9.
This year, for the first time, teams will be competing for the Union Cup Women’s Cup during what should be a memorable festival of rugby right here on our doorstep.
