The first stages of the MetroLink have entered the tender process.
They have entered the tender process at the maximum value of just under €8 billion minus VAT, however Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) expects the project's bids to be much less than this.
In a statement, they revealed they are inviting bids for the first projects initial two contracts which will deliver tunnelling, stations, track alignment preparation and a wide range of structures like bridges and tunnels.
These are expected to form the core infrastructure of the city's long-awaited metro system.
They further added the the procurement process is a 'pivotal milestone' in delivering the rail in the long run.
TII's Chief Executive, Lorcan O’Connor, said this advancement will 'ultimately identify the organisations that will deliver the main civil engineering works associated with MetroLink'.
MetroLink said the tender process will begin with a pre-qualification stage to assess bidders’ capability, with shortlisted firms invited to bid for two contracts.
The first contract covers the southern section from Charlemont to Northwood, valued at almost €4.6bn excluding VAT, and the second contract, covering the northern section from Northwood to Estuary, is worth an estimated €3.3bn excluding VAT.
Bidders may apply for one or both contracts but can only be awarded one.
