An Garda Siochana are appealing for information about an armed robbery which took place in the city centre over the weekend.

Dublin Live reports that a man armed with a knife entered a shop on South Leinster Street, Dublin 2 at 12.15pm on Saturday, where he threatened staff and got away with an undisclosed sum of money.

Members of the public attempted to stop the robber from escaping but he fled the scene and managed to get into a taxi near Westland Row.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "He made his escape in direction of Westland Row and it is believed he got into a taxi between Lincoln Place and Westland Row.

"The man was wearing a blue/navy puffa type jacket."

Gardaí are appealing for any members of the public who attempted to intervene in the incident with the man or who witnessed this incident, or have any video or photographic footage to contact them at Pearse Street Garda Station on 01-6669000, or Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.
