A showcase of Irish innovations of the future at Enterprise Ireland’s Big Ideas event will be held at Dublin’s Helix today, meaning that traffic heading north of the city this morning will be decidedly heavier.

Researchers and investors from all over will gather for this showcase, located on Dublin City University’s campus.

The day-long event will be opened by the Minister of State for Training, Skills and Innovation, John Halligan.

The day involves five entrepreneurs taking to the stage to describe how they brought their business from a simple idea to full scale company, as well as giving eight investor-ready start-up companies the opportunity to pitch their new innovations to investors.

Carol Gibbons, head of research and innovation start up at Enterprise Ireland praised Ireland’s healthy innovation sector, deeming it an excellent location for such an event:

The innovation sector in Ireland is incredibly healthy. We have a good base of innovative research, it follows on from Government strategy Innovation 2020, where we are pushing more and more innovation into the commercialisation of products and services.
