Gardaí were called to a South Dublin school recently, when two clowns arrived on site carrying props that “looked identical to chainsaws”.
The incident took place at the Newpark School in Blackrock, with the mother of one of the school’s students describing the scene as “shocking” to the The Irish Independent.
“She told me that at least one teacher was panicking. The level of hysteria among the students was shocking. One of the sixth-year students was screaming, telling everyone to stay indoors.”
The newspaper reports that the two clowns visited the school to promote a Halloween event, with school principal Derek Lowry later issuing a letter to the families affected.
In it, he confirmed that they had “entered the school campus without any authorisation” and that “a number of second-years were distressed” by their presence.
It’s understood that gardai will not be investigating the incident, which they have described as a civil matter.
