Good news or bad news for students? You decide…

Minister for Education, Richard Bruton has stated that a large number of schools are expected to close on Monday November 7 because of planned industrial action by the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI).

The news of the proposed strike action was announced after negations broke down with the teachers union last night.

Mr Bruton has also warned that students and parents should prepare for more if not indefinite closures as the dispute is not resolved.

The ASTI have also confirmed that they have directed members to cease providing supervision and substitution duties from Monday, November 7.

The strike action comes after the mid term break, where over 250,000 students were expected to return to school on Monday.
