Lower Speed Limits In The City Centre Are Being Introduced Tonight

katedemolder

Driving in the city centre is set to get even more unhurried as new slower speed limits are coming into effect in the city centre from midnight tonight.

Authorities have put 30km/h speed limits in place for certain areas around the city, following a vote by Dublin City councillors in December.

At present, 30km/h zones are in operation in the inner city, as well as the suburb of Marino. The new limit will see non-arterial roads in Dolphin’s Barn, Kilmainham and Smithfield affected, too.

And while the move has been criticised by reputable transport services such as The AA, the Irish Independent reports that Dublin City Council is adamant that the move will save lives.

The great slowdown is also set to be extended to residential zones just outside of the city centre; like Sandymount, Drimnagh Crumlin, Glasnevin and Cabra, by the end of May.
