A man has had part of his ear cut off by a machete-type blad in an attack in South Dublin this week.
Gardaí in Kilmainham are currently investigating the reason behind the attack and fear that it might be over a drug debt.
The incident took place in the Basin Street flats in Dublin 8 and the 39-year-old was subsequently taken to hospital
This is the second time a case like this has took place in the city this month in the same area.
Gardaí confirmed to Lovin Dublin at the start of August that they were “investigating the discovery of what is believed to be part of an ear – found on Whitefriar St, D8 at approximately 9.45am on Wednesday 1st August 2018. Investigations are ongoing.”
It is being claimed that one of the attackers sliced off the victim’s ear which was later found more than half a kilometre away.
The victim was rushed to St James’s Hospital after losing eight pints of blood and sources are saying that it was unlikely that the ear could be saved.
Aisling Roche reporting for KFM – which can be heard here – says that Gardaí do not believe that the incidents are related, however.
