AmyBell

After it emerged yesterday that Al Porter will be “stepping aside” from this year’s Olympia Theatre Christmas Pantomime amid current allegations, this Mrs Brown’s Boys star will be taking his place.

Rory Cowan, who was previously the star of Mrs Brown’s Boys, has confirmed that he will take over the lead of the panto which is due to stage from December 15th.

According to the Irish Daily Mail a source said that Rory has already began rehearsals this week.

A source told the Mail, “we are all devastated at what has happened with Al. But the Olympia panto is an institution and it is in everyone’s interest that the show goes on.

“Rory is an old school professional and we have a really talented writer so we will ensure that we still have a brilliant top quality show for the public.

“I can’t ignore the fact that Al will be a huge loss to the production but the show and the panto traditions are bigger than any one person.”

Rory Cowan has described joining the panto as a “privilege”. He said, “I am very happy to be joining the cast of The Olympia Theatre panto. I am a huge panto fan and treading the hallowed boards of The Olympia is a privilege for me.”
