North Dublin Pub Closed After Mother Died Of Suspected Food Poisoning At First Communion Meal

An investigation has been launched into a suspected food poisoning outbreak after a Dublin mother in her 50s died at the weekend.

The Irish Independent report that the the kitchens of a north Dublin pub have been closed down by the HSE following the suspected salmonella outbreak.

A number of people were seriously ill after a private First Communion party and were treated in hospital.

The woman attended the party with members of her family and was then found dead by her husband at home.

An as of yet unnamed franchise company provides the food at the pub and also has an off-site catering service. 

The HSE issued a statement to the Irish Independent saying that it is investigating an outbreak of food poisoning due to salmonella in north Dublin.

"An outbreak control team has been formed and an investigation is ongoing," it said.

"Members of the public should contact their GP if they have any concerns regarding their health."

The woman who died was described as a "fitness fanatic" and did not have any underlying health conditions.

The family who hosted the Communion party are said to be deeply distraught although they themselves did not prepare the food.
