This Northside Shopping Centre Is Getting A Makeover That Nobody Wants

The redevelopment of Phibsborough Shopping Centre has been granted approval by An Bord Pleanála.

The revamp will include 341 students and a huge increase in retail space.

However, the demolition of the tower block was not included in the plan because the developers do not own the businesses underneath it. Instead, the plan is "upgrade" the block by covering it "with expanded metal mesh".

According to the Irish Times, the rooftop antennae will also be covered in the same material.

Local residents who tried to appeal the plans with the planning board described the cladding as “hideous ” and “a gaudy cage-like structure”.

The planning board's senior inspector recommended that the material should be removed, but the plans were approved with the material.
