Some readers may find this picture disturbing.

Sometimes you see a pic that sends shivers down your spine – and this image of a bike under the wheels of a truck on the corner of Leeson Street this morning does exactly that.

It also serves as a stark reminder of how dangerous cycling in the city can be, and how vigilant all of us – whether we're on two wheels or four – have to be at all times.

It was photographed by Aislinn O'Toole, who arrived at the scene at around 8.40am. She told Lovin Dublin:

"The girl looked okay, she was sitting up at the side of the road with people helping her – but the sight of that bike made me feel physically sick."

Thank goodness the cyclist was able to walk away from the incident.

Now, before getting bogged down into the tired cyclists-versus-drivers debate, perhaps we should focus on ways to make the city safer for everyone.

(Thanks to Aislinn O'Toole)
