Update: Dublin NW Repeal has stated that washable chalk was used and no damage caused from the marking of the statue, which was part of a photo campaign to 'highlight the local impact of the 8th Amendment, including its impact on women who are already mothers and their children."
The debate over repealing the 8th Amendment has long been divisive but with a referendum on the way, tensions are getting even higher.
Over the weekend, a member of the pro-choice campaign emblazoned the word 'REPEAL' across a mother and baby statue in Finglas and the move has sparked anger among some people in the area.
Twitter user KeithM shared a photo of the statue on the social media site, with many agreeing that the "vandalism" may have been a step too far.

The Mother and Child statue has been a part of the Finglas community since 1996.
Something seriously wrong with these people. By defacing this statue they're acknowledging that abortion destroys mother/child relationship

However, others have defended the move and continue to call for decisive action on the legislation.
You don't want repeal to succeed, so surely you'd celebrate this if indeed you think ppl won't support it based on this.
