If you've been lucky enough (*eye roll emoji*) to have tried to order a taxi at peak times with the MyTaxi app in Dublin, you'll be well aware that more often than not, you're left waiting in the purgatory that is this:
The company, which replaced Hailo last year, has admitted previously that they "understand it can be difficult to hail at busy times, such as mornings and weekends". To counteract this, they recently changed their booking policy to no longer include the €2 discount of booking a taxi, which they hoped would encourage more drivers to use the service.
It didn't go down well, to say the least, that people's fares would be increased by €2 each time.
"MyTaxi Exec" is their latest feature that allows you to hail a fleet of executive vehicles and drivers from the mytaxi app.
Every vehicle meets showroom-quality standards, and every driver "delivers an exceptional level of service", according to their website.
Commenters on Reddit however, have keenly noticed that it appears to be a move aimed at getting people to choose the more expensive exec option at peak times in order to guarantee a taxi.
Oh, and it apparently increases your chances of getting a fare. Makes sense considering the driver would make extra money.
"Well you can't book a taxi at peak times any more so are now forced to pay extra to get one. I checked the pre book option for tomorrow morning and there is no avail abilities for anything before 6.45 am", said one Reddit user.
Another said, "The app is gone to shite since changing from Hailo."
Would you be willing to switch to an "executive" taxi on the app if it guaranteed you a ride to work in the morning?
