The Luas Will Not Be Up And Running Today After Damage From Hurricane Ophelia

AmyBell

It has just been confirmed that the Luas will not be running today due to the damage from Ex-Hurricane Ophelia yesterday.

A meeting was held at noon to reassess when the services would be getting back on track, but it’s bad news for commuters because there will be no schedule this evening.

Both the Red and Green lines are currently out of action after the technical room at the Red Cow depot was damaged during yesterday’s weather.

In a statement on the Luas website they have thanked commuters for their patience.

The statement reads:

“Hurricane Ophelia damaged the roof on the Red Cow depot yesterday at approximately 14:30.

“The roof is being repaired today – the firm contracted to repair the roof have estimated it will take the whole day.

“The section of roof damaged is over what is known as technical rooms.

“Within those rooms are Luas systems. Those systems, for example, assist with overhead power and the AVLS, which is the automatic vehicle location system.

“These are necessary to run the Luas operation.”

Due to the significant damage and the time it will take to fully fix it, services have been suspended until tomorrow, Wednesday October 18.

The Luas will run its usual service from 5.30am in the morning.
