A scientific study has revealed what the only guaranteed way to avoid a hangover is and we bet it hasn’t occurred to a lot of you.
It turns out the answer is not drinking a pint of water, or making sure you get a bit of heavy soakage into you before bedtime: it’s drinking less.
Yes, it seems like a cop out, but according to the research carried out by a team of international researchers from the Netherlands and Canada, reducing one’s intake of alcohol is the only surefire way to avoid the dreaded hangover.
While drinking water and eating before sleep made a slight improvement in how the 800 students surveyed felt, the research also revealed that these measures made no real difference to the severity of the hangover.
Lead author of the research Dr Joris Verster, from Utrecht University, puts it simply:
The more you drink, the more likely you are to get a hangover. Drinking water may help against thirst and a dry mouth, but it will not take away the misery, the headache and the nausea.
So there you have it. I think we all kinda knew this was the truth, but no one wanted to admit it.
