The Phoenix Park Rail Tunnel Will Open For Business From Next Week

katedemolder

The Phoenix Park rail tunnel will open for commuter services from next Monday 21, connecting Newbridge and Hazelhatch in Kildare with Dublin Connolly and Grand Canal Dock.

These services will serve all stations between Newbridge, Hazelhatch and Parkwest, Drumcondra, Connolly, Tara Street, Pearse and Grand Canal Dock.

The rail tunnel is almost 700-metre-long and was built in 1877 – however it has never before been used for daily passenger services, until now.

From Monday November 21, seven new morning trains will come from north-east Kildare to Dublin City, with eight returning in the opposite direction during evening peak hours.

Each morning, three trains will go from Grand Canal Dock to either Newbridge or Hazelhatch with six trains making that journey in the evening.

Heuston Station is not a part of the route, however existing services to Heuston will continue from Newbridge/Hazelhatch.

The timetable for the new route is available on Irishrail.ie.
