This Delivery Van Ran Over A Homeless Man’s Breakfast This Morning

Stories like these eliminate any remaining faith we have in humanity... and unfortunately they've become quite regular of late.

Two months ago, we heard of a rough sleeper who was urinated on by a man while his friends watched and laughed. 

Then, a few weeks later, another group of people egged a homeless man while shouting "have some food" at him. 

Vile. 

This morning, Lovin Dublin reader Sarah Hughes sent us these disturbing photos and told us the following story:

"I was in the city centre this morning and noticed a homeless man sleeping on the road and saw that someone had left food and drink beside him."

When Sarah originally walked passed the sleeping man, she noticed someone had kindly left food for him. 

However when she passed him again, a while later, a van had driven up and parked on the footpath – completely destroying the sandwiches and cartons of orange juice that had been placed beside him. 

"A few minutes later, I passed by again and saw that a delivery van had parked about a metre from this person's head and had driven over and squashed all his food/drink."

One sandwich was even pushed under the van entirely, while orange juice is splashed all over the pavement.

If we were to give the benefit of the doubt here, we could say that perhaps the driver didn't see the man sleeping in the doorway, and that's why he parked so close to him.

But according to Sarah, most of the street "was completely free for him to park elsewhere". And this photo confirms that there was space to park further down.

Surely if you were driving down a narrow street like Duke Lane Upper and you saw someone asleep on the street you would go out of your way to manoeuvre around them to your best ability. 

This doesn't look like that, at all. Which is really, really, really disgusting. Why would you make matters worse for someone who is already clearly down on their luck?

To whomever left the food beside this man, and to Sarah for expressing her concern and horror to us, sincere kudos to you both. 

To the person driving this van, we hope that this was a genuine mistake and that you righted the wrong and helped this man after Sarah moved on.

And we hope that you are never in the position where someone runs over what little food you have to survive on.
