Virtual reality. Those two words alone are usually enough to make my eyes glaze over, but when my boyfriend heard that a VR Escape Room had opened in Dublin, he had to go.
And it was coming up on his birthday, so I very generously organised it.
We arrived at Corn Exchange Place (just off Poolbeg Street) on Saturday afternoon, and walked around lost until we finally spotted the sign.
We were then welcomed by Anna and Nash, the pair behind the experience.
Their offices looked a little bare, and I was slightly worried we had made a mistake.
But once we got hooked up to the Oculus Rift my mind was blown. Seriously.

There were no controllers, so our hand movements were picked up by sensors, which was really immersive.
In the zero gravity parts (it's set in space) it 100% felt like I was flying. I couldn't stop laughing!
Unless you count the intense Sims 2 phase I went through as a teenager, I never play games, and I'm comically bad at them.

It was kind of embarrassing to have Nash watch me take 20 minutes to learn how to open a door in VR.
But after a while I got the hang of it and was actually better than my boyfriend by the end (or at least, that's what Nash said, and he definitely didn't just feel sorry for me).
We even managed to solve all the puzzles and escape in time!

VR Escape costs €32 per person for two people, €22 per person for three to four people and €20 per person for five to six people.
It might sounds pricey but I really think it's worth it for such a unique experience.
Check out their website here.
