The National Transport Authority (NTA) is encouraging the public to download a new app that will prevent them being scammed by illegitimate taxi drivers.
The Driver User App applies to licensed taxis, hackneys and limousines.
It allows passengers to make sure the vehicle they’re going to travel in has been registered and that the driver is properly licensed.
The app makes sure that the taxi is A-Okay
A spokesperson for the NTA said: “With the Christmas season upon us, whether people are shopping, socialising or working, travelling by taxi is a safe, convenient and reliable option.”
They added: “Our Driver Check App covers licensed taxis, hackneys and limos. It is a handy tool that ensures your safety and comfort when hiring a driver or vehicle. There is also the facility to email a friend with trip details.”
The app can be downloaded on both iTunes and Google Play Store.
