WATCH: Howth RNLI Rescued A Young Girl And Her Grandad After They Got Into Difficulty At Sea

Howth RNLI came to the rescue of people in difficulty at sea in Portmarnock at the weekend. 

Crews launched the inshore lifeboat on Saturday after receiving reports of two dinghy sailors finding it difficult to return to Portmarnock beach due to heavy offshore winds. 

After being tasked at 7.25pm the lifeboat located a grandad, his grandaughter and a lifeguard in separate dinghies battling strong winds in efforts to return to shore. 

The casualties were taken aboard the lifeboat and the sailing dinghies towed back to the beach where the young girl was met by her Father who had raised the initial alarm. 

Both sailors were treated and checked by the ambulance crew on arrival.

"We were delighted to assist the sailors after they found themselves in difficulty. The Father had quickly radioed for assistance which was the correct thing to do and we were able to launch and bring the sailors to safety."
