Commuters passing through Rathmines got a bit of a shock this evening as a power outage led to all lights in the area going out.
Just after half past five, the suburb descended into darkness just as the evening rush was taking place. Everything from street lights to bank machines stopped working, causing problems for diners and business owners in the area.

The blackout extended to surrounding areas such as Harold's Cross but it appears that everything is now back in working order...
Takes you back to the days when the electricity in the house would go blink and we'd all have to get the candles out but it's safe to assume that most people were guided home by the light on their phones this evening. Is there anything they can't do?
