Brian Dillon

Ashtown

Each area of Dublin has its own individual character and charm, and Ashtown is no exception.

*Fun fact: Did you know it’s actually 28% less expensive to buy a house in Ashtown compared to the average price of property in County Dublin?

We have again partnered with AIB to help you explore your options when looking at buying property in Dublin.

(Psst! Make sure you try AIB’s handy mortgage calculator here to find out how much you could borrow!)

There are plenty of reasons to love this northside suburb, but we’ve narrowed it down to just nine.

1. Phoenix Park

Just north of Dublin’s Phoenix Park, Ashtown provides plenty of opportunities to get out into nature at the weekend, as well as all of the amazing amenities and attractions found in the park, such as Ashtown Castle (featuring a visitor centre), playgrounds and of course, Dublin Zoo.

As well as being right next to the largest urban park in Europe, the area also features GAA clubs, running tracks and loads of other outdoor facilities.

2. Canal Bar

In terms of nightlife, you’re pretty sorted in Ashtown. Canal Bar makes for a fairly classy and chic evening out, serving speciality cocktails, craft beers and great wines.

They also serve some amazing food, including deliciously satisfying gastro-pub dishes like nachos, burgers, ribs, steaks and pasta.

3. Strolls Along The Royal Canal

Stretching from the city centre through Drumcondra out to Ashtown and beyond, the Royal Canal makes for a fantastic walkway, running route and cycling track.

It’s amazingly picturesque, weaving its way through various neighbourhoods and towns just like Ashtown, which are all full of great cafes, restaurants and bars.

4. Blanchardstown Shopping Centre

Just an eight-minute drive (or 20 minutes on the bus) from Ashtown, Blanchardstown has a massive array of retail shops as well as eateries, cafes and even a huge cinema and a Leisure Plex.

It has pretty much everything you could ask for in a shopping centre, from Bershka to H&M, Captain America’s to Nandos, and absolutely loads more (including that famous Krispy Kreme).

5. Appatizers Bistro And Cafe

Located in Royal Canal Park, Appatizers Bistro and Cafe is a friendly neighbourhood eatery where you can get your fix of gorgeous breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch.

Their head chef, who has over 20 years experience in the industry, only uses the freshest ingredients.

Nowadays, it’s mandatory to have a fab brunch spot close by! So you’ll be sorted in Ashtown with Appatizers.

6. Hole In The Wall

This pub is known for going all-out at Christmas, but it’s a great spot every other time of the year as well.

Dating back to 1651, it encompasses everything we love about a traditional Irish pub but still offers fantastic drinking and even dining experiences.

Nestled against the wall of the Phoenix Park, it’s an ideal spot to head for a coffee, pint, glass of wine or hearty food.

7. The Transport

Ashtown really is both close to central Dublin, but fairly far away from the hustle and bustle of city life at the same time.

The city centre is easily accessed from Ashtown via Ashtown Railway Station as well as nine Dublin Bus routes: 37, 38, 38a, 38b, 39, 39a, 39n, 70 and 70n.

Looking for healthy yet DELICIOUS dining in Ashtown? Then look no further than Lo-Cal Kitchen.

Husband and wife duo Stephen and Jenny opened this cafe with the vision of creating amazing dishes using only unrefined and natural, whole ingredients. And it’s safe to say they did just that.

You can sit in and enjoy a delicious and nutritious breakfast or lunch, or if you prefer, get it to take away.
