Thousands of Irish hearts were broken over the last few weeks, as the tight ticket allocation for Euro 2016 ran dry unexpectedly quickly – and summer holiday plans were suddenly shelved for huge swathes of football fans.
But there's some good news today: all hope is not lost.
Following the Irish Sun's revelation that Belgium were granted an additional allocation of 10,000 seats – the sneaky brats – the same paper announced today that more tickets are to come for Irish fans.
It quoted an insider as saying:
“The FAI has been pushing UEFA for more tickets. In light of the news about extra tickets for Belgian fans, they feel their hand has been strengthened.
“UEFA cannot show any favouritism to different associations. It is the FAI’s hope they will have more tickets to announce shortly.”
To be fair, the extra tranche of Belgian tickets did also include tickets for the knockout stages all the way through to the final – a realistic expectation, given the talent in their current squad.
But hey. If it helps us, it helps us.
