A pint was spotted on the grave of Brendan Behan today to mark his birthday.

Born on this day in 1923, the renowned writer grew up on Russell Street on the Northside. He came to fame for works like Borstal Boy, Confessions Of An Irish Rebel and After The Wake.

But as famous as he is for his being an writer and a poet, he’s just as well known for a big fondness for the drink, which is why this pint of Guinness was left on his grave at Glasnevin Cemetery today.

Behan passed away in 1964 at the age of 41 from complications caused by diabetes and alcoholism.
