There aren’t many things more frustrating for a restaurant owner than a last-minute cancellation and to be fair it’s easy to see why. Tables which are being held for groups are suddenly gone to waste along with the efforts of the staff and a lot of money goes down the drain too.
Unfortunately, it’s a trend that has gathered pace in Dublin recently with a number of establishments taking to social media to air their grievances at people cancelling late or just not showing up.
Last month, Lil Portie Carribbean Kitchen in Rathmines called for a bit more courtesy and as recently as last weekend, Michael’s in Mount Merrion received plenty of support after suffering a similar fate.
The public has generally reacted sympathetically to the plight of the restaurants and now someone has taken the step of trying to decrease similar situations with the Twitter account Last Minute Table Dublin. The person (s) behind the page writes in the description: ‘Leinster/Dublin Based … Last Minute cancellations/openings?? Tag us/Share and we’ll share! #LastMinuteTableDublin #Restaurant Or just #LastMinuteTable !!!’
The project appears to have gone down well with all…

The Twitter account started in November and is quickly gaining a lot of followers with close to 1,000 signed up at the time of writing.
A great idea indeed and one which is sure to reduce stress for business owners over Christmas.
