Dublin Airport Had A Brilliant Response To A Tweet About Irish Fashion Sense

As we reported earlier, a new daily flight service between Dublin and Dallas Fort Worth Airport in the U.S. has just been announced.

Given that Dallas is both a great city and one of the largest hubs for onward travel in the States, this news is, of course, cause for celebration.

That's what the social media team behind the American airport did with a tweet drawing attention to the fact that it would now be connecting to both Dublin and Munich Airport in Germany.

All well and good until you notice the caption says 'Grab your plaid and lederhosen. We're headed to Dublin and Munich next year!'

Now, we're not exactly famous for our fashion sense here in Ireland but do we really wear enough plaid for it to be used as a reason to visit us? Sure, some Irish lads are fond of the pattern but is it's not really that ingrained in our culture, is it? Surely 'grab a pint of stout' or even 'a bowl of shamrocks' would have sufficed if the intention was to throw in an Irish stereotype for the craic.

Anyway, Dublin Airport caught wind of the tweet and responded with 'We’re thrilled to have a new direct connection to @DFWAirport with @AmericanAir. But plaid? Ah lads, as we’d say over here in non-plaid wearing Ireland.'

Great response. Hopefully those over in Dallas are made aware of the faux pas before they start piling Dublin-bound planes full of misinformed plaid enthusiasts.
