WATCH: Dublin teens stun Connolly passengers with gorgeous rendition of Christina Aguilera song

James Fenton

Christina Aguilera’s trip to Dublin may be over but her music lives on in the form of this talented duo at Connolly Station.

Last week, Irish Rail shared a clip of young Darragh Smith performing on the station’s piano while, unexpectedly for him, being joined by backing singer Stëphänié Starpøng.

Darragh was giving passengers a beautiful rendition of Say Something by A Great Big World, a tune which the American duo released in 2013 before it was re-recorded with Christina Aguilera later that year.

Unbeknownst to Darragh, Stëphänié decided to join in and the two strangers struck up a phenomenal singing partnership. If you missed it last week, the clip can be viewed below…

The duet gained a lot of attention online with many lamenting the fact that Stëphänié walked away in the middle of the performance. Howver, she explained the situation on Ray D’Arcy’s radio show on Wednesday by saying: “I didn’t know the rest of the song so I was like, ‘It’s going to be awkward if I sing the wrong lyrics then it won’t be as nice anymore’. So I just kind of wandered off!”

Ray organised the reunion the public wanted over the airwaves and now the pair are set to reunite for RTÉ television audiences. Darragh and Stëphänié will be appearing on tonight’s edition of The Ray D’Arcy Show which kicks off at 9.35pm on RTÉ One.

If the impromptu Connolly perfromance is anything to go by then we’re all in for a treat. Christina Aguilera herself would no doubt be proud.
